“The Digital Asset Privilege Tax Act”.
More like the “Digital Punishment Tax Act” aka the “Once again Illinois Proves it has No Interest in Business Act”…

Representative Bill Huizenga continues to prove why he holds a perfect stance score when it comes to digital assets. His recent condemnation of the new crypto tax in Illinois is incredibly spot on and highlights a major threat to the industry.
To give some context on what is happening: Illinois recently passed legislation that imposes a tax on digital asset transactions. The most egregious part of this new law is that the tax applies even to transfers between personal wallets. Taxing a user for moving their own digital property from one self-custodial wallet to another is completely absurd. It is the equivalent of the state government taxing you for moving a twenty dollar bill from your left pocket to your right pocket.
Huizenga is absolutely right to label this a punishment tax. Punitive taxes like this are not about creating a clear regulatory framework or protecting consumers; they are about penalizing an industry and discouraging ordinary access to digital assets. True regulatory clarity removes arbitrary barriers, protects the fundamental right to self-custody, and allows innovation to thrive.
By firmly pushing back against restrictive state-level overreach, Huizenga demonstrates a deep understanding of what the industry actually needs to survive and grow in the United States. We need lawmakers who champion clear rules of the road that enable lawful crypto activity, rather than those who seek to burden users with arbitrary fees just for securing their own assets. State governments that implement these hostile policies will quickly find that they are driving the next generation of financial innovation right out of their borders.
