I supported @SenToomey cryptocurrency amdt. I know of its importance to innovation & job creation, but I believe it pales in comparison to the security of our nation–which is why I called for a vote on my defense infrastructure amdt. It's unfortunate that Dems blocked both amdts.

Despite Senator Shelby's tweet claiming to support the pro-crypto amendment Senator Toomey tried to include in the infrastructure bill, he was the lone senator that filed an objection to bring the amendment to a vote.
This objection was raised to force the Senate to vote on his own amendment that would have increased the US military budget. When his amendment was objected to by Senator Sanders, Shelby objected to the overall compromise, preventing the Senate from adding the crypto-friendly language to the bill.
His intentions were not necessarily to promote anti-crypto legislation, but his actions ensured poorly worded language was included in the final draft of the bill..
